Project Lead Engineer

 Summary/Objective

The Lead Engineer interfaces with all functional groups within Roccor, including Program Management, Engineering, Quality and Production. They ensure efficient development and smooth transition through design, build, and test for multiple large deployable, small satellite programs. They lead and/or are chiefly responsible for the technical execution of the project, driving towards delivering quality hardware. They interact with external customers, subcontractors, and the project technical team to communicate, collaborate, and guide technical development.

Primary Responsibilities & Activities

  • Assist program management with team organization and project technical execution
  • Lead the project through the different stages of the product life cycle
  • Identify, track, and mitigate risks
  • Share project status/needs with customer and Roccor management
  • Work with and guide multidisciplinary team

  • Work with team define system needs, constraints, and requirements,

Required Competencies

  • Leading projects: Experience leading teams of engineers to design deployable space systems. This could include solar arrays, antenna deployment systems, deorbit devices or thermal control hardware.
  • Planning: Develop technical work plans for new product development including estimation of resources required
  • Product Lifecycle: Experience with all phases of development including architecture definition, requirement management, analysis, prototyping, product design, manufacturing, assembly, debug, and testing
  • Communicate project status: Share technical status (positives and risks) with appropriate levels of management throughout the company
  • Supplier management: Act as technical point of contact between Roccor and supplier(s) ensuring the work product meets technical specifications
  • Documentation generation and review: Generate and/or review fabrication, test, and quality assurance documentation and vendor specifications. Roccor is a AS9100 certified company and proper documentation is a top priority.
  • Collaboration: Ability to listen, communicate, and collaborate with internal team and multiple customers
  • Problem solving: Identify system risks to project team and recommend mitigation strategies
  • Adaptable: Comfortable performing a variety of tasks throughout the multiple engineering disciplines at Roccor
  • MS Office: Ability to establish, track, and share project status, architecture, design, analysis, requirements, and status using multiple software tools

Preferred Competencies

  • Space and deployable structures: Background in space, small satellites, and deployable structures
  • ME design: Experience using CAD to design and fabricate mechanical systems and/or mechanisms
  • Prototyping: Experience with rapid prototyping methods for fast proof-of-concept development
  • Composites: Background/understanding in composites design, analysis and manufacturing
  • Requirements development: Experience with techniques for requirement generation and establishing appropriate verification criteria
  • Requirements management: Mange system baseline through requirement configuration management
  • Structural analysis and test: Experience with analytical techniques for structures and mechanisms
  • Flight hardware, build and test: Experience assembling and testing hardware for space environments
  • Large structure testing: Experiencing offloading and testing large structures

    Battery Engineer

    Summary/Objective

    The Battery Engineer at Roccor is responsible for the architecture, design, analysis, test, and verification of electrical battery systems for spacecraft of all sizes and applications. The battery engineer serves as the key technical point of contact to industry partners which operate on the cutting edge of battery cell technology.

    Essential Functions

    • Conducts industry surveys of battery cell technologies, understanding technical advantages and limitations for applications in spacecraft.
    • Develops battery assembly designs and models for use in predicting power supply performance through spacecraft orbital trajectories and spacecraft on-orbit life.
    • Generates battery component selection and battery system designs through trade studies.
    • Decomposes system level requirements and key performance criteria to the battery system and associated battery components.
    • Identifies, develops, and executes risk mitigation plans to aid in the design of battery subsystems.
    • Develops and facilitates the execution of verification plans and reports, including analysis and testing to demonstrate compliance to requirements.
    • Develops subcontractor statement of work and provides technical oversight to subcontractors through product development phases.
    • Prepares and participates in proposal development for technical feasibility and cost assessments.
    • Supports the development and maintenance of electrical power systems technology and product roadmaps.

    Required Competencies

    • Engineering Principles: *Knowledge of the fundamental principles electrical energy storage devices, analog and digital electronics, and electrical power systems.
    • Engineering Methods: Capable of generating and/or utilizing engineering models, trade studies to facilitate technical selection of battery solutions against necessary requirements.
    • Hardware Development: Experience with battery design, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing processes.
    • Space Environments: *Experience with programmatic, quality, reliability, and technical space flight hardware requirements associated with the design for demanding launch and space environments.
    • Verification Methods: Knowledge of electrical battery verification techniques and methods for demonstrating compliance to requirements.
    • Decision Making: Autonomously facilitates the decision-making process to progress actions and tasks towards meeting aggressive milestones, deliverables and cost targets.
    • Complex Problem Solving: Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
    • Communication: Capable of facilitating verbal and written communication with all levels of a small business organization. Able to clearly present and facilitate complex interactions demanded by hardware development.

    Preferred Competencies

    • Spacecraft Integration: Preferred candidates have experience successfully managing a spacecraft integration project through the processes of design, qualification, assembly and test, launch integration and support, and in-orbit operations.
    • Systems Discipline: Capable of identifying and managing indicators of system performance and the actions need to improve or correct performance, relative to the goals of the system. Manages design decisions with the focus of maturing the overall system balance between cost, complexity, technical compliance, and schedule.
    • Range Safety: Experience with US launch range safety requirements and verification associated with electrical energy storage devices.

      Spacecraft Project Manager

      The Project Manager has ultimate authority and responsibility for overall success of projects and project execution to achieve on-time, on-budget results.  The Project Manager leads small, medium, and large high-tech projects with varying levels of risk and scope complexity.  The person in this role is a key component of fostering relationships and securing new business opportunities with customers, strategic technology development partners, consultants, and subcontractors.  Please only apply if you have successful experience with spacecraft missions.

      Essential Functions

      • Project Team Leadership including generating and updating work plans, schedules, tasks, and status

      • Subcontractor Management: Capable of managing complex projects requiring coordination with major subcontractors, technical contractors, and strategic partners.  Generates contract requirements and task orders for supporting business relationships
